  It's been 5 years since I have gone to Metro, but in order to move forward & heal I need to publish a clear honest review of my experience because it was never responded to when I reached out. I went to metro for a bit over 2 years, was baptized there, attended three days a week, served, went to premarital counseling there, was married by a pastor from there, and still have friends and family that go there that I respect & love. I'm giving 3 stars instead of 0 because most importantly the word is preached with strength and accuracy which is absolutely essential and the foundation of a healthy church for that those desiring to become a member. Secondly, the worship was full of the Spirit moving. And third, because there are truly loving members of the body there. The reasons I'm not giving a 4 or 5 star review: I didn't experience love in forms other than fatherly discipline from leadership. I definitely had sin that needed healthy correction, but that's all I received. For a long time my fear of caring what others thought and fear of saying anything negative to only be perceived as me attempting to tarnish reputation, i didn't say anything in public platforms. The longer I was apart of Metro, the more self conscious I became and the more fear of man grew. Praise Jesus, but I no longer have that fear. My main critique is for the pastoral leadership, not the body. I was treated as an acquaintance, not a soul that they would have to give an account for. There was no desire to truly shepherd my soul, just correct it. I was not cared for or watched over with intent to grow me into a man of God, but instead expected to already be one. I was treated with judgement and never compassion. The culture and environment was critical in nature, and the leadership had a persona of eliteness. If your even slightly insecure, be prepared for that to grow as a member, not decrease. There is no time for you. No one followed up with us as a marriage couple when we stopped attending. Questions or concerns over deeper issues were avoided. And if you aren't comfortably under their control, prepare to be treated as if your a wolf in sheep's clothing instead of as an equal son or daughter in Christ. The environment is one of earning respect and earning relationships, not one of grace in action. You will receive kindness indefinitely, but if you stop attending, nearly all your relationships are forgotten. No church is perfect and we are all sinners is the motto, there were many great experiences to be shared here, and God blessed our season in Metro. But I think it's important to know what you may experience in the long term, unless your a favorite. And it's taken being in a healthy church for four years to realize the effect that they either intended or unintended, but God used it for good. As a newer reborn Christian it was great to be getting the word, but my attitude grew judgemental, not loving. It's taken being around loving pastors and leaders to undo some of the damage and incorrect application of the word that was directed into me during development at Metro. After leaving I was similar to a dog that has been hit and flinches when you attempt to pet it. When a pastor of a much larger congregation asked me out to lunch because he wanted to invest in my life, I was actually nervous and confused at first. With much critism, please don't take everything I say with a grain of salt, and find out for yourself. Being apart of the local body of Christ in community is where you will grow in Christ most. And finding a body to be apart of isn't easy in your local region at times. For several years after leaving Metro, I never said anything negative about it, always referred people in that area to check Monday night's out, & am happy they are still around and serving Jesus. I learned to value theology, was baptized, and met my amazing wife at Metro. What God taught me through the shortcomings of man is what lack of loving others like Christ in all ways can effect people. It was more of a museum for saints than a hospital for sinners, but both.
